Home Sweet Home: Summer Programs for Youth

Summer 2024
Main Space

Alongside our summer exhibition, Home Sweet Home, Union Gallery is offering a series of programs for youth artists.

Artist and Author Meet & Greet

Wednesday May 15th, 5-7PM

Open to exhibiting artists, exhibiting authors, and their guardians

All exhibiting youth artists and authors are invited to join us at Union Gallery for an intro night! Get to know who will be involved alongside you and start forming connections with each other. This is a youth-only event, but parents are welcome during the first 20 minutes to ask questions and get to know the group.

Youth Artist Residencies

Saturday May 18th + 25th, 11AM-4:30PM

Open to exhibiting artists

Union Gallery is hosting residencies for all of Home Sweet Home’s exhibiting artists! As part of the creation period, local youth artists who are making new work based on youth authors’ stories will be invited to take over the gallery space and work on their pieces alongside their peers. Although taking part in these residencies is not mandatory, this unique experience provides young artists the space typically reserved for older, more established artists to build off each other, ask each other questions, and be involved in each other’s processes.

Artist and Author Install Night

Wednesday May 29th, 5-7PM

Open to exhibiting artists and exhibiting authors

Union Gallery is hosting an installation workshop for all youth artists and authors involved in our exhibition – Home Sweet Home. This workshop allows artists and authors to be fully involved in how their piece looks in the exhibition, and teaches them the basics of installing in a gallery space!

Process Art and Storytelling Workshop for Children and Families

Saturday June 1st, 1-3PM

Open to children ages 3-9 with their families

Register now!

Calling all young artists and earth-loving kiddos! You are invited to Union Gallery to create a group artwork to be exhibited in our upcoming exhibition, Home Sweet Home! Together alongside local teacher, artist, and activist Re Parsons, we’ll read through an inspiring eco-story written by a local youth author, then re-create the story as a giant piece of art to be suspended from the ceiling throughout the month of June! This event is intended for children ages 3-9 and their families, although it is open to anyone.

Conscious Creations: for Youth to Meditate, Make, and Mull over Mother Earth

Saturday June 15th, 2-4:30PM

Open to local youth ages 10-18

Register Now!

Union Gallery is inviting local eco-conscious youth to meditate, make, and mull over Mother Earth together in our upcoming program – Conscious Creations! Come join young like-minded artists and activists to discuss your climate passions and anxieties openly, all while keeping your hands busy with creating some eco-art!  This event is an open, casual get-together with opportunities to submit discussion points anonymously and respond as a group. The afternoon will begin with a meditation to open our worlds to one another, and close with a solution-oriented meditation to keep us all sailing forward with hope.

Please bring any specific art materials or meditation instruments you’d like to use.
