Offsite program, free + open to all

Single Page, Continuous Scroll marks Fiona McMillan’s third annual reading represented by Union Gallery. Over the past three years, Fiona’s work has evolved in tandem with herself, exploring themes of mental illness, femininity, and sexuality. Recently, Fiona has been interested in the rituals of romantic courtship, physical beauty as a symbol of mental sanity, and the effects of Artificial Intelligence on interpersonal connection. She will explore these topics through a curated collection of personal essays written over the past year.

FIONA MCMILLAN

Fiona McMillan (b. 2004) is an oil painter and writer from Whitby, Ontario. She is currently obtaining her Bachelor of Fine Arts (Honors) with a minor in Philosophy from Queen’s University. Her work explores the embodiment of mental illness in women, specifically how feminine beauty standards can be used to communicate mental sanity. Her upcoming thesis exhibition, The Last Living Girl, explores physical beauty, placing a specific focus on the emotional weight held in hygiene rituals. Her prose exists in tandem with her painting practice, exploring illness through first-person, stream-of-consciousness narratives.
